Why an electric scooter with long range ?

An electric scooter that can handle a range of 40 km or more with a fully charged battery is called a long range electric scooter.

If you regularly need to travel longer distances then you need an electric scooter with a big battery.

The price of an electric scooter is largely determined by the battery size. After all, good Li-Ion batteries don’t come cheap.

The range is determined by the battery

Because the battery’s capacity, expressed in Ah, determines how much power it can deliver in function of time. For a long-range electric scooter, you need a battery of +/- 15Ah. Most standard scooters are equipped with a battery capacity between 7 and 10Ah.

Other factors determining the range

Other factors that determine the maximum range are your weight and the shape of the track you are on. Are there many steep mountains, or do you have to stop frequently. Because this is also an additional load on the battery.

Your driving style also has a big impact on the range. Manufacturers always indicate a maximum range based on a standard route (without mountains), a person with an average weight of 70 kg and in eco or standard driving mode.

More sporty electric scooters with higher motor power (>500W) are also equipped with a higher capacity battery. The higher the engine power the higher the consumption. So driving style also affects the range of an electric scooter. In sport mode, the scooter will accelerate faster, consequently, the battery will also drain faster.

Based on the Ah of the battery, you can estimate the maximum range of an electric scooter. The maximum range is two to three times the number of Ah of the battery. So a 15Ah battery has a maximum range that is between 30 and 45 km.
